Some people dream grand dreams, and others use their talents and abilities to do great things. The problem lies in the reasoning for the grand things. If you build huge towering monuments or write beautiful sonnets but only do this for your own self ambition, God has something he wants you to remember. Remember that when you try to make a name for yourself and forget the God who makes everything you do possible, you might end up like the people of Babel (Gen.11:3-4) Whatever do with everything you have, but do it also with the Lord. He gave the gifts we use; He gave the songs we sing. Forgetting this would be foolish and detrimental to what you want to accomplish.
Take some well known Hollywood stars. These people are the rich, powerful and some of the most outwardly beautiful people in the world. They are also some of the most depressed, anxious and vain people in the world. I would clarify, not all of them, but most fit squarely into this category. Power, prestige, hunger for achievement, blind ambition, and distorted values plague our society. Our children are bombarded with images that glorify thing that are an abomination to God. How do you fix this?
We must take God with us in the things we do. We have to ask Him to help us choose our path, our song, our way. Teaching our children that faith in God is not something to cause you to be ashamed. Teach them that living for Christ is not a silly saying or repetitive verse at church on Sunday morning. God has to be in everything we do or it means nothing. Recall the man who built on sand? (Luke 6:47-49) He turned out with nothing. How about the one who built on the rock? I want to be building on the Rock. I want the things I do to be filled with God. Not because I think it is the "cool" thing to do, but because the belief in God and the faith that He is with me in what I do or I will surely fail (or at least be miserable doing it).
The group of guys that make up this band RideTheWind have embarked on a mission. Not for ourselves, but to further God's kingdom. If we do this on our own, it will mean nothing. It has to be from and for God. God has a plan and it is up to us to follow. Otherwise we will fail just like the people of Babel who tried to make a name for themselves and were scattered across the Earth.
In Christ,
Rick
