| Acts 4:32-35 (NIV) "All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of their possessions was their own, but they shared everything they had. With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And God's grace was so powerfully at work in them all that there were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned land or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales and put it at the apostles' feet, and it was distributed to anyone who had need." Last week I was talking to some friends, and we discussed the huge disparity between the filthy rich and the destitute people in our town and in our country. I offered the words from a well-known author and financial advisor from many years ago, who stated that God has placed enough resources on this earth for everyone to have what they need to survive, if we will all just share what we have. We have often heard people say that you can't take it with you, so why do we try so hard to accumulate wealth and assets like we are in a major competition with each other? I have joked with others and have said that when I die, I want to have the hearse pull a trailer. Of course, those who are alarmed always inquire why I'd do such a crazy thing, and my reply is always that I want to offer one last laugh for those who truly think I am trying to take my things with me to the grave! Dear Friend, what about you? Have you shared your possessions with others, or have you engaged in personal wealth and acts of hoarding? The very first verse in this passage states that ALL of the believers were in ONE HEART and ONE MIND, which is how God wants us to live. The passage also tells us that they shared EVERYTHING they had. I truly believe that if God is alive in us, and we allow him to lead us and control us, then and only then will we be in ONE HEART and ONE MIND. Blessings to You Today, Dave Henry |
