| Psalm 91:1-4 (NIV) Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, "He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust." Surely he will save you from the fowler's snare and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. There is a beautiful song that we sang many years ago that speaks about finding refuge under His wings. William Cushing, the author of the hymn "Under His Wings" was a pastor for many years, and later lost his ability to speak. In his distress, he cried out to God to rescue him from his inability to communicate. God was faithful and answered his prayers. Pastor Cushing later wrote over 300 hymns. Here are the words to this beautiful hymn: 1. Under His wings I am safely abiding, Tho the night deepens and tempests are wild; Still I can trust Him, I know He will keep me, He has redeemed me and I am His child. 2. Under His wings, what a refuge in sorrow! How the heart yearningly turns to His rest! Often when earth has no balm for my healing, There I find comfort, and there I am blessed. 3. Under His wings, O what precious enjoyment! There will I hide till life's trials are o'er; Sheltered, protected, no evil can harm me, Resting in Jesus, I'm safe evermore. Chorus: Under His wings, under His wings, Who from His love can sever? Under His wings my soul shall abide, Safely abide forever. Dear Friend, are you resting under His almighty wings? The Psalmist wrote so many years ago that you will find refuge from all harm under the wings of God. That wonderful promise is still true today, and will continue to be true for all of eternity. Do you know the song? Sing it aloud to our Savior as an anthem of praise and reflection for His amazing love and protection. Resting Under His Wings, Dave Henry |
