| Psalm 68:3 "But may the righteous be glad and rejoice before God; may they be happy and joyful." Ira F. Stanphill, born in 1914, has written over 500 songs. The most popular of which are "Mansion over the Hilltop," "Room at the Cross," and "Happiness Is the Lord." On a beautiful afternoon in 1974, at age 60, Ira Stanphill left the church office where he was pastor in Fort Worth, Texas. Listening to his car radio as he drove home, he listened to several programs. Many advertisements of local establishments drew attention to their happy hour and their serving of alcoholic beverages. Pastor Stanphill also heard commercials about cigarettes being advertised and how they bring happiness to your life. The word "happiness" was used several times in the ads. He knew very well that happiness does not come from these things, but only through having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. At this moment, God truly laid a beautiful song on his heart. The song, "Happiness is The Lord" had been created that afternoon. He sang the song in his car as he continued to drive along, and later wrote the words on paper and had them published. Here are the words to "Happiness Is The Lord" Happiness is to know the Savior, Living a life within His favor, Having a change in my behavior, Happiness is the Lord. Happiness is a new creation, Jesus and me in close relation, Having a part in His salvation, Happiness is the Lord. Real joy is mine, no matter if teardrops start; I've found the secret, it's Jesus in my heart! Happiness is to be forgiven, Living a life that's worth the living, Taking a trip that leads to Heaven, Happiness is the Lord, Happiness is the Lord, Happiness is the Lord! Dear Friend, can you truly say that Happiness is the Lord? Only He provides true, lasting happiness in our lives. Take a few moments to reflect on these beautiful words. If you know the song, sing it aloud as a praise offering to the Saviour who loves you so much! Blessings to you this beautiful day! Dave Henry |
