| John 4:7-15 When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, "Will you give me a drink?" His disciples had gone into the town to buy food. The Samaritan woman said to him, "You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink?" For Jews do not associate with Samaritans. Jesus answered her, "If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water." "Sir," the woman said, "you have nothing to draw with and the well is deep. Where can you get this living water? Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did also his sons and his flocks and herds?" Jesus answered, "Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life." The woman said to him, "Sir, give me this water so that I won't get thirsty and have to keep coming here to draw water." What a familiar story, and what a great message in these verses! As I read these verses once again, I was reminded of the beautiful song, "Fill My Cup, Lord" written by Pastor Richard Blanchard many years ago. Like the woman at the well I was seeking For things that could not satisfy; And then I heard my Savior speaking: "Draw from My well that never shall run dry." CHORUS: Fill my cup, Lord, I lift it up, Lord! Come and quench this thirsting of my soul; Bread of heaven, feed me 'til I want no more- Fill my cup, fill it up and make me whole! There are millions in this world who are craving The pleasure earthly things afford; But none can match the wondrous treasure That I find in Jesus Christ my Lord. So, my brother, if the things this world gave you Leave hungers that won't pass away, My blessed Lord will come and save you, If you kneel to Him and humbly pray. Dear Friend, do you thirst for the living water that God provides? He has so richly promised us that we will never thirst again for the things of this world if we thirst for His kingdom and all He has to offer. Take a few minutes right now to thank Him for the living water that only comes from Him. Dave Henry |
