Laughter, God's Medicine for the Soul

"A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken
spirit drieth the bones."
Proverbs 17:22 (KJV)

"He will once again fill your mouth with laughter and your lips
with shouts of joy."
Job 8:21 (NLT)

"We were filled with laughter, and we sang for joy.
And the other nations said, "What amazing things the
Lord has done for them.""
Psalm 126:2 (NLT)

"Laughter can conceal a heavy heart, but when the laughter ends,
the grief remains."
Proverbs 14:13 (NLT)

Many years ago, I took weekly Viola and Violin lessons with my brothers.  Before we began our lessons, Mrs. Hinton always asked us to share a joke.  She told us that we were all members of the S.O.H. Club.  Not one of us wanted to be ignorant, so we didn't ask her what S.O.H. was, but we knew that we were valued members of the Club.  After about 2 or 3 weeks, she asked us if we knew what S.O.H. was and not one of us knew the answer.  She quickly told us that S.O.H. was Sense Of Humor.
It was very important to begin our lesson each week with a little humor.  As I reflected on the special times we shared with Mrs. Hinton, I am thankful that we spent the beginning few minutes sharing something funny with each other.  It sure did lighten the mood of our hour together, and it was especially valuable if we hadn't spent much time practicing during the week prior to our lesson!
Dear Friend, do you have a heavy heart?  Have you spent some time laughing today?  The bible tells us that a merry heart doeth us much good, just like medicine.  I am so thankful that Mrs. Hinton allowed us to share something funny every time we met.  I will always remember her positive attitude and encouraging words to me and my brothers.
